At least some of the praise heaped on PS3 title Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was because the game played out like a summer action movie, with stunning visuals, high production values, and of course, undead mutant Nazis. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Hollywood has optioned the game for an upcoming movie. Writing the script for the Uncharted film will be relatively unknown screenwriter Kyle Ward, whose only credits to date include a 12 minute short called “3 Rounds” and the as yet unreleased adaptation of the game Kane & Lynch and the upcoming sequel to the Hitman movie, “Hitman 2.”

Since Hollywood has proven to be inept at adapting video games to the big screen time and time again, perhaps hiring on new talent is a good sign? No other details about the project have been released, so we don’t yet know who is directing or starring in the film, or when it will be released. We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled and see how the Kane & Lynch movie (which at least has Bruce Willis attached) does – that may be a reasonable indicator of whether or not young Mr. Ward has the chops or not.
