In case you’ve missed it, there’s quite a hullabaloo going on among the Left 4 Dead community. So far, over 20,000 fans have agreed to boycott the upcoming sequel, Left 4 Dead 2, if Valve doesn’t make some changes. Namely, the concerns are that the new sequel is basically an overpriced expansion pack that will split the community and degrade the experience for both games. On top of that, there are fears that with L4D2 already coming out, the promised free and paid downloadable content to the game would not be delivered.

The president of Valve tried to put an end to the concerns in a statement in an interview with Kotaku. Newell said that Valve has no intention of discontinuing support for the original game, and the announcement of the sequel has not affected any of their plans. He noted that Left 4 Dead should be seeing new content such as mod making tools, new matchmaking programs, and more very soon.

For those with concerns that the game isn’t worth the full game asking price, Valve also noted that they’ve got a lot more to reveal, and the game will be every bit as worth it as the first one was.

I just hope they don’t get so blindsided with trying to add new features that they just start adding crazy stuff in order to justify a sequel, and to silence the gamers. Incendiary rounds I think is a perfect example of this… Granted I haven’t played with incendiary rounds, because I haven’t played the game(obviously), so I can’t speak from experience, but in my opinion I think incendiary rounds is a bad idea.
