Which Wii Remote is Superior?

For awhile now, to most people’s surprise, the only company that has been making Nintendo Wii remotes was Nintendo. Mad Catz and Nyko have been making third party controllers for consoles for many years now and finally they have stepped into making Wiimotes. So, how do they compare?

First off, the third party controllers are naturally cheaper so when you need to buy three more Wiimotes to be able to play with all of your friends, it means you could save between $15 and $30 depending on which brand you go with. That right there is a definite win because chances are you have to buy three more nunchuks too.

But what about how durable they are and how well they actually work? There’s a few things that go into determining how good a Wiimote is, especially because it is a wireless controller. Naturally there’s how well the cursor responds to the user. In the case of these three Wiimote options, Nintendo seemed to outdo the others although Nyko would probably be sufficient for most casual gaming purposes.

While Gizmodo has a more in depth look at how these controllers work, there was one thing they left out that bothered me: controller appearance. The color of the Mad Catz controller confuses me. No one has a black Wii, and while black is a very stylish color, every single Wii accessory is white. For those gamers who are OCD like me, it’s a serious downside. At the very least the Nyko controller is mostly white with a bit of added color, but unless cost is an issue I still think I’ll stick with Nintendo’s handiwork.
