Blizzard just announced the expansion for World of Warcraft titled ‘Cataclysm’ which answers the swirly whirlpool on the middle of the map. They also released a bunch of concept art and screenshots of the coming expansion, with a brand new trailer to get the ball rolling for the next expansion.

Also, over at BlizzCon Chris Metzen, Tom “Kalgan” Chilton and Cory Stockton had a panel to answered a lot of questions and gave a lot of details on Blizzard’s World of Warcraft Cataclysm expansion.

Chris, Tom, and Cory started the panel by giving a little taste on the lore and background stories for the two new races Worgens and Goblins. The Worgens will be the cursed humans working for the alliance, while the Goblins are from the Bildgewater faction which will be on the Horde side, but do not to be confused with the neutral Goblins and the new Horde Goblins.

As for the special bonus feature for the new races, the Worgen can turn in and out of wolf form, but Chilton said don’t expect to see any special bonus effect to your stats when you change forms. As for the Goblins, it will be much cooler in my opinion since they will get a ‘Rocket Belt’, which will let them perform a rocket jump “like the reverse of [Hunter ability] Disengage…engage,” Chilton explained and also it fires rockets.

Cataclysm will bump the level cap to 85 and also adding the Guild Advancement System, which we saw in Warhammer Online. So as long as you help level your Guild up, your Guild will get rewarded depending on the level your Guild is. No word on what the rewards and perks will be. Also, there will be a guild talent tree which will give off bonuses to every member of the guild (also been seen in Warhammer Online).

Features of Cataclysm:

New Profession:

  • Archaeology

New race and class combos:

  • Undead Hunter
  • Human Hunter
  • Night Elf Mage
  • Blood Elf Warrior
  • Tauren Paladins
  • Gnome Priest
  • Dwarf Shaman

Class Changes:

Hunters will no longer use intellect, neither do Enhancement Shamans. Spirit will no longer be useful to Mages or Warlocks. Tanks will be “defence capped” (in realty: crit capped) by default through talents rather than needing specific gearing. More on this as the expansion draws closer.

Warlock shards will be gone from your backpack – you will burn a shard when you need a boost or a special ability – it’s like a cooldown multiplier. Examples of such bonuses given were potentially guaranteed crit or instant cast Soulfire.
New PVP zone:

Tol Barad, set on an island. Horde and Alliance fight for map control and access to a prison. It’s described as like the Isle of Quel’Danas when it’s inactive, and like Wintergrasp when the battle for the zone is underway.

There will be a new Battle for Gilneas battleground, new arena maps, and most importantly, rated battlegrounds that allow players to build their rating “and access same type of gear as arena.”
Key stats on items:

Defence, attack power, spellpower, mana per five, armour penetration are all gone: replaced by core stats – such as agility, strength, intellect and spirit.

Dungeons and Raids:
- More endgame content than ever before

- The Firelands: go into elemental plane

- Blackrock Caverns will be a new level-up dungeon in Blackrock Spire
- Grim Batol will be home to a level up dungeon and a raid instance
- Skywall – also a level up dungeon and a raid instance
- Level 85 Heroic Deadmines and Heroic Shadowfang Keep: new fights, new creatures, new abilities

Check out the screenshots and trailer after the jump.

I’m so happy i got out of this game a few months ago. once your out you can see just how evil blizz is, don’t get me wrong the game is amazing but its geared to force you to sit in front of your computer for many hours dealing with ninjas and angry kids only for the potential to maybe if you’re lucky get some items

The longer this game goes, the less and less I will likely stay with it… They just keep dumbing it down for the kiddies that can’t understand how game and class mechanics work.

“Defence, attack power, spellpower, mana per five, armour penetration are all gone: replaced by core stats – such as agility, strength, intellect and spirit.”

These kinds of dynamics are one of the things that make this game a challenge.

Oh well, we’ll see if I am still playing by the time this expansion comes out.
