WoW Back In China on July 30
July 22, 2009 by urloc
After a long period, World of Warcraft will be online again in China. The game has been offline in the country for over 2 months. With 5 million players in China making a total of 40% World of Warcraft players, this sounds like good news for Blizzard. Although there is such a massive audience in China, they are paying much less than we pay in the US, as it is billed per hours at a very low rate and even being a great business, it’s not a big piece of the cake.
The game will be online again on July 30th for “internal testing” and that means players with an existing account will be able to play the game, but no new users would be able to sign up until the game fits some conditions. First its content must be reviewed as some of its features were found “questionable” by the Chinese government, like for example skeleton characters. This content must be changed before the game is fully released.
The Chinese cultural ministry approved the existing content, but according to Yahoo! The government found some content that needs modification. No news on what content must be changed or how many time will last to do such changes, but the date for the “internal testing” is set and Chinese players already owning an account will start playing again.
