Young Boy Shot After Video Game Argument
June 11, 2009 by srfto
Whenever the terms “video games” and “real life violence” appear together, you know there’s bound to be trouble. A recent story Sky News details a recent accidental shooting death that is loosely tied to the world of video games. In this unfortunate story, two young boys, 9 and 11, apparently got into an argument after one beat the other in a video game.
The younger boy apparently obtained a shotgun from somewhere in the house, and two struggled over it. In the midst of that struggle, the gun discharged into the younger boy’s chest, killing him. It remains to be seen if this case will become a new rallying cry for the anti-video game violence set.
It seems tenuous at best to blame this one on the video games, since it could’ve just as easily been an argument over a football game or something. The real question is why were the kids able to have such easy access to a shotgun in the first place? According to the report, the father was actually at home, but was outside mowing the lawn. Ultimately, it seems like more of a gun control case and less of a video game problem.
