UK Hacker Charged Over LulzSec Hacking

U.K. police formally charges 19-year-old Ryan Cleary for the recent cyber attacks from Anonymous and LulzSec.

The teenage hacker is facing charges on violating Criminal Law Act and Computer Misuse Act with the recent DDoS attacks on UK websites. Ryan Cleary has been questioned by cyber crime detectives since Tuesday and has been suspected by police that he might be part of the LulzSec hacker group and Anonymous group, which LulzSec denies on Twitter:

“Ryan Cleary is not part of LulzSec; we house one of our many legitimate chatrooms on his IRC server, but that’s it,” LulzSec Tweeted. “We use Ryan’s server, we also use Efnet, 2600, Rizon and AnonOps IRC servers. That doesn’t mean they’re all part of our group.”

LulzSec even went as far as saying “at best, mildly associated”.

On the other side, Anonymous was already in a bad feud with Cleary when they posted on their blog saying that Cleary had compromise their network. This was due to the fact that Cleary had talked about his hacking job in an interview with one of UK publication previously.

Cleary will appear at City of Westminster magistrates court on Thursday for hearing. It is also a possibility that the US Federal Bureau might extradite him to the US for questioning and trial.
